Supersaw

Complete manual and reference for the Supersaw module.

UPDATED MAR 9, 2026

How Does It Work?#

Supersaw stacks multiple detuned voices into a stereo unison field, with selectable saw or square waveforms, per-voice phase randomization, and separate left, right, and mono outputs.

Quick Overview#

  • It can run from 1 to 16 voices.
  • Detune spreads voices in pitch, while Spread pans them across stereo.
  • Phase controls how much per-voice phase offset is used.
  • L and R carry the stereo field, while M is the summed mono output.

Inputs And Outputs#

PortTypeWhat It Does
V/OctCVApplies 1V/oct pitch control.
FMCVApplies bipolar frequency modulation.
LAudioLeft stereo output.
RAudioRight stereo output.
MAudioMono sum of the unison stack.

Controls Reference#

ControlValuesDefaultBehavior
WaveSAW, SQRSAWSelects the base waveform for every voice.
Range32', 16', 8', 4', 2'8'Sets the octave footage.
Pitch-12..12 st0Coarse tuning.
Fine-20..20 ct0Fine tuning.
Voices1..168Sets how many unison voices are active.
Detune0..10.35Spreads voices in pitch across the stack.
Spread0..10.7Spreads voices across the stereo field.
Phase0..11Scales the built-in per-voice phase offsets.
Level0..10.8Sets output level.

Unison Field#

  • The panel visualizer shows the current voice layout.
  • More Voices increases density.
  • More Detune pushes voices farther apart in pitch.
  • More Spread pushes voices farther left and right.
  • With Phase at 0, voices start more uniformly. Higher settings increase the randomized start offsets between voices.

Output Behavior#

  • L and R are the stereo-panned unison mix.
  • M is the centered mono sum of the same voice stack.
  • Output level is normalized across the active voice count, so adding voices does not scale volume linearly.

Patching Ideas#

  • Use low Detune and moderate Spread for tighter unison chords.
  • Push Voices, Detune, and Spread for wide trance-style leads and pads.
  • Use the M output when the patch needs mono compatibility or a centered layer under the stereo pair.
