Spectrum Analyzer

Complete manual and reference for the Spectrum Analyzer module.

UPDATED MAR 9, 2026

How Does It Work?#

Spectrum Analyzer shows the frequency content of one or two incoming signals on a logarithmic frequency display, with averaging, peak hold, reference capture, adjustable frequency and dB ranges, and selectable color themes.

Quick Overview#

  • Two monitor inputs: A and B.
  • Overlay modes for A, B, or A+B.
  • Reference trace can be hidden, shown, or captured from the current view.
  • The display range is adjustable in both frequency and dB.

Inputs#

PortTypeWhat It Does
AMultiFirst analyzed input.
BMultiSecond analyzed input.

Spectrum Analyzer has no outputs. It is analysis-only.

Display And Routing Controls#

ControlValuesDefaultBehavior
LIVE/HOLDLIVE, HOLDLIVEFreezes or resumes the incoming analysis.
GRIDOff, OnOnShows or hides frequency and dB guides.
FILLOff, OnOnToggles filled spectrum shading under the trace.
PEAKOff, OnOnShows or hides peak-hold traces.
A / B / A+B3 overlay modesA+BChooses which input traces are visible.
REF OFFOffOffClears and hides the reference trace.
SHOWOnOffShows the saved reference trace.
CAPCaptureOffCaptures the current displayed trace as the new reference.
FFT1K, 2K, 4K2KSelects FFT size.
FPS30, 45, 60, 90, 12060Sets display refresh rate.
THEME1..61Cycles through the available analyzer themes.

Knob Controls#

ControlRangeDefaultBehavior
AVG0..10.72Smooths the spectrum over time.
DECAY0.1..308Sets how quickly the peak-hold trace falls.
TILT-12..120Applies display tilt compensation in dB.
GAIN-24..240Adds display gain compensation before plotting.
LO Hz10..200020Sets the low end of the visible frequency range.
HI Hz1000..2400020000Sets the high end of the visible frequency range.
FLOOR-120..-24-96Sets the bottom of the visible dB range.
CEIL-24..120Sets the top of the visible dB range.

Reference Trace Notes#

  • CAP stores the current displayed selection as the reference trace.
  • SHOW overlays that saved trace on top of the live display.
  • REF OFF clears the saved reference.

Typical Uses#

  • Compare two oscillators or two processing stages with A+B.
  • Capture a target tonal balance, then match against it with SHOW.
  • Narrow the frequency and dB ranges to focus on one problem area in a patch.
