VU Meter

Complete manual and reference for the VU Meter module.

UPDATED MAR 9, 2026

How Does It Work?#

VU Meter monitors one incoming signal with a vintage-style analog needle, a segmented level bar, and live RMS / peak readouts.

Quick Overview#

  • One monitor input and no outputs.
  • Analog-style needle plus digital-style bar graph.
  • Selectable response modes, peak hold, clear-peak button, and input gain trim.

Input#

PortTypeWhat It Does
INMultiSignal to monitor.

VU Meter has no outputs. It is meter-only.

Controls Reference#

ControlValuesDefaultBehavior
ResponseC, H, FCC uses classic RMS-style motion, H uses RMS needle with peak bar, and F uses faster peak-oriented motion for both.
HOLDOff, OnOnEnables or disables peak hold.
CLRMomentaryClears the stored peak indicator.
Gain0..21Adjusts the monitored level before display conversion.

What You See#

  • The analog needle shows the current response target.
  • The segmented bar gives a quick at-a-glance level view.
  • The peak indicator tracks the highest recent level.
  • The readouts below the meter show live RMS and PK values in dBFS.

Usage Notes#

  • C, H, and F trade smoother motion for faster peak visibility.
  • Peak hold only affects the held peak indicator, not the live signal path.
  • If detailed probe stats are unavailable, the module falls back to cable meter data for level updates.
