Chorus

Complete manual and reference for the Chorus module.

How Does It Work?#

Chorus is a stereo, BBD-leaning modulation effect that thickens a signal with moving delay voices, then lets you shape the result with mix, width, tone, spread, jitter, and drive.

Quick Overview#

  • It is a stereo effect with In L / In R and Out L / Out R.
  • NQ and HQ switch between the two chorus engines.
  • Rate, Depth, and Delay set the core motion.
  • FB, Tone, and Drive shape the character of the repeats.
  • Width, Spread, and Jitter control how wide, separated, and unstable the modulation feels.

Inputs And Outputs#

PortTypeWhat It Does
In LAudioLeft audio input.
In RAudioRight audio input. If unpatched, it follows In L.
RateCVModulates the chorus rate.
DepthCVModulates modulation depth.
DelayCVModulates the base delay time.
FBCVModulates feedback amount.
Out LAudioLeft processed output.
Out RAudioRight processed output.

Controls Reference#

ControlValuesDefaultBehavior
QualityNQ, HQNQSelects the normal or high-quality chorus engine.
Rate0.03..8 Hz0.45 HzSets how fast the chorus moves.
Depth0..10.42Sets modulation depth.
Delay3..35 ms11 msSets the base chorus delay time.
FB-0.35..0.350.08Adds positive or negative feedback for a thicker or more hollow tone.
Mix0..10.5Blends dry and wet signal.
Width0..1.251Scales stereo width on the wet path.
Tone1200..12000 Hz6200 HzSets the brightness of the chorus color.
Spread0..10.65Increases divergence between the modulation voices.
Jitter0..10.18Adds slow drift so the movement feels less static.
Drive0..10.15Pushes the wet path into soft nonlinear color.

Character Notes#

  • Rate, Depth, and Delay define the basic chorus motion.
  • Spread and Width do different jobs: Spread changes how separated the moving voices are, while Width changes how much stereo side energy reaches the output.
  • Tone darkens or brightens the wet signal and also affects the feedback color.
  • Drive adds saturation after the wet signal is bandwidth-limited, so it behaves more like character shaping than simple gain.
  • HQ is the smoother, richer option. NQ is lighter and more straightforward.

Patch Notes#

  • Start around Rate 0.3..0.8 Hz, Depth ~0.4, and Delay 10..14 ms for classic chorus territory.
  • Reduce Tone and raise FB for darker, more vintage movement.
  • Push Spread and Width together when you want a broader stereo image.
