How Does It Work?#
Distortion is a flagship mono drive module with ten shaping modes, dedicated tone and bias control, a texture stage for mode-specific behavior, and CV inputs for the core performance parameters.
Quick Overview#
- It is a mono effect with one audio input and one audio output.
- It offers
10modes ranging from gentle clipping to unstable asymmetry and deliberate digital degradation. Drive,Tone, andBiasare the main performance controls.Texturechanges the behavior inside the selected mode.MixandOutputmake it easy to use as either an insert or parallel effect.
Inputs And Outputs#
| Port | Type | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
In | Audio | Audio input. |
Drive | CV | Bipolar modulation around the panel setting. ±5V spans the intended modulation depth. |
Tone | CV | Bipolar modulation around the panel setting. ±5V spans the intended modulation depth. |
Bias | CV | Bipolar modulation around the panel setting. ±5V spans the intended modulation depth. |
Mix | CV | Bipolar modulation around the panel setting. ±5V spans the intended modulation depth. |
Out | Audio | Distorted output. |
Controls Reference#
| Control | Values | Default | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
Mode | Soft Clip, Hard Clip, Tube, Diode Fuzz, Amp I, Amp II, Amp III, Bias Sputter, Asym Drive, Digital Crunch | Soft Clip | Selects the distortion model. |
Drive | 0..1 | 0.35 | Sets input drive into the shaping stage. |
Tone | 0..1 | 0.55 | Sets the post-shape tone balance. |
Bias | -1..1 | 0 | Offsets the shaping behavior for asymmetry and offset drive. |
Texture | 0..1 | 0.4 | Alters the response of the selected mode. |
Mix | 0..1 | 1 | Blends dry and wet signal. |
Output | 0.25..4 | 1 | Sets final output gain. |
Mode Reference#
| Mode | What It Leans Toward |
|---|---|
Soft Clip | Smooth, rounded saturation. |
Hard Clip | Sharper clipping with a firmer edge. |
Tube | Asymmetric tube-style drive. |
Diode Fuzz | Fuzzier diode-like compression and bite. |
Amp I | Low-to-mid gain amp flavor. |
Amp II | Hotter amp grind. |
Amp III | The most aggressive amp-style mode in the set. |
Bias Sputter | Gated, unstable bias-driven breakup. |
Asym Drive | Different positive and negative drive character. |
Digital Crunch | Deliberately degraded, sample-held and reduced-resolution distortion. |
Behavior Notes#
Toneshapes the distorted path after the main waveshaping stage.Mixis true dry/wet blending, so you can keep transients from the clean signal if needed.Digital Crunchis the only intentionally degraded mode. The other modes stay oversampled and smoother.Biasis especially important inTube,Bias Sputter, andAsym Drive, where asymmetry is part of the point.
