Distortion

Complete manual and reference for the Distortion module.

How Does It Work?#

Distortion is a flagship mono drive module with ten shaping modes, dedicated tone and bias control, a texture stage for mode-specific behavior, and CV inputs for the core performance parameters.

Quick Overview#

  • It is a mono effect with one audio input and one audio output.
  • It offers 10 modes ranging from gentle clipping to unstable asymmetry and deliberate digital degradation.
  • Drive, Tone, and Bias are the main performance controls.
  • Texture changes the behavior inside the selected mode.
  • Mix and Output make it easy to use as either an insert or parallel effect.

Mode Reference#

ModeWhat It Leans Toward
Soft ClipSmooth, rounded saturation.
Hard ClipSharper clipping with a firmer edge.
TubeAsymmetric tube-style drive.
Diode FuzzFuzzier diode-like compression and bite.
Amp ILow-to-mid gain amp flavor.
Amp IIHotter amp grind.
Amp IIIThe most aggressive amp-style mode in the set.
Bias SputterGated, unstable bias-driven breakup.
Asym DriveDifferent positive and negative drive character.
Digital CrunchDeliberately degraded, sample-held and reduced-resolution distortion.

Behavior Notes#

  • Tone shapes the distorted path after the main waveshaping stage.
  • Mix is true dry/wet blending, so you can keep transients from the clean signal if needed.
  • Digital Crunch is the only intentionally degraded mode. The other modes stay oversampled and smoother.
  • Bias is especially important in Tube, Bias Sputter, and Asym Drive, where asymmetry is part of the point.
