VA Diode

Complete manual and reference for the VA Diode module.

UPDATED MAR 9, 2026

How Does It Work?#

VA Diode is a virtual-analog 4-pole diode ladder lowpass with resonance and post-filter overdrive, designed for more volatile behavior than the standard ladder modules.

Quick Overview#

  • VA Diode is a single-input, single-output lowpass filter.
  • It offers Cutoff, Resonance, and Overdrive.
  • The cutoff range is 20 Hz to 20000 Hz.
  • Resonance ranges from 0 to 1.
  • Overdrive ranges from 0 to 1.

Inputs And Outputs#

PortTypeWhat It Does
InAudioSource signal for the diode ladder core.
CutCVModulates cutoff frequency.
ResCVModulates resonance amount.
DriveCVModulates overdrive amount.
OutAudioFiltered and driven output.

Controls Reference#

ControlRangeDefaultBehavior
Cutoff20..20000 Hz500 HzSets the filter cutoff.
Resonance0..10.1Sets the ladder feedback amount.
Overdrive0..10Adds output saturation after the filter stage.

Signal Path#

  • The input is processed by a 4-stage diode ladder lowpass structure.
  • Resonance changes the internal feedback amount of that ladder.
  • Overdrive is applied after the filter output, not as a separate output gain stage.

CV Behavior#

  • Cut uses exponential modulation.
  • Res uses linear bipolar modulation and is clamped to 0..1.
  • Drive uses linear modulation and is clamped to 0..1.
  • The panel silk marks Cutoff and Reso CV as -5V~+5V, and Drive CV as 0V~+5V.

Panel Layout#

  • The large center knob is Cutoff.
  • The small left knob is RESO.
  • The small right knob is DRIVE.
  • The central artwork shows a stylized four-stage diode ladder path from IN to OUT.
  • CV jacks sit above the bottom SIGNAL IN and SIGNAL OUT jacks.
