Ladder LPF

Complete manual and reference for the Ladder LPF module.

UPDATED MAR 9, 2026

How Does It Work?#

Ladder LPF is a 4-pole transistor ladder lowpass filter with the classic dense, rounded ladder tone and a broad resonance range.

Quick Overview#

  • Ladder LPF is a classic single-input, single-output lowpass filter.
  • It provides Cutoff and Q controls plus dedicated CV inputs for both.
  • The cutoff range is 20 Hz to 20000 Hz.
  • Resonance ranges from 0.7072 to 25.
  • Its 4-pole slope is steeper and darker than Ladder Half.

Inputs And Outputs#

PortTypeWhat It Does
InAudioSignal fed into the ladder filter.
CutCVModulates cutoff frequency.
ResCVModulates resonance (Q).
OutAudioFiltered lowpass output.

Controls Reference#

ControlRangeDefaultBehavior
Cutoff20..20000 Hz20000 HzSets the lowpass cutoff frequency.
Q0.7072..251Sets resonance around the cutoff.

CV Behavior#

  • Cut uses exponential modulation, which is useful for envelope and keyboard-style tracking.
  • Res uses linear modulation and is clamped to the supported resonance range.
  • The filter smooths parameter changes internally to avoid zipper noise during motion.

Character Notes#

  • This is the fuller and heavier ladder voice in the group.
  • Compared with Ladder Half, it removes highs more aggressively.
  • There is no dedicated drive parameter, so hotter input levels are the way to push the core harder.
