How Does It Work?#
EQ Eight is an 8-band parametric equalizer with per-band type, frequency, gain, Q, slope, and enable controls, plus dedicated CV for every band's frequency and Q.
Quick Overview#
EQ Eightprocesses one audio input and produces one audio output.- It has
8independent bands arranged in series. - Each band can be enabled or bypassed individually.
- Band types are
Low Cut,Low Shelf,Bell,High Shelf,High Cut, andNotch. - Cut bands support
12 dB/oct,24 dB/oct, and48 dB/octslopes. - Global controls are
Output,Adapt Q, andScale.
Inputs And Outputs#
| Port | Type | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
In | Audio | Source signal for the full EQ chain. |
F1..F8 | CV | Frequency modulation for bands 1 through 8. |
Q1..Q8 | CV | Q modulation for bands 1 through 8. |
Out | Audio | Final EQ output after all enabled bands and output gain. |
Default Band Layout#
| Band | Default Type | Default Frequency | Enabled By Default |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | Low Cut | 30 Hz | No |
2 | Bell | 80 Hz | No |
3 | Bell | 200 Hz | No |
4 | Bell | 500 Hz | No |
5 | Bell | 1000 Hz | No |
6 | Bell | 2500 Hz | No |
7 | Bell | 6000 Hz | No |
8 | High Cut | 16000 Hz | No |
Per-Band Controls#
| Control | Range | Default | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
Enabled | Off, On | Off | Inserts or bypasses the band in the cascade. |
Type | Low Cut, Low Shelf, Bell, High Shelf, High Cut, Notch | Varies by band | Selects the filter shape for that band. |
Freq | 20..20000 Hz | Varies by band | Sets the target frequency for the band. |
Gain | -24..+24 dB | 0 dB | Boosts or cuts shelf and bell bands. |
Q | 0.1..18 | 0.707 | Sets bandwidth or resonance. |
Slope | 12, 24, 48 dB/oct | 12 dB/oct | Sets the steepness of Low Cut and High Cut bands. |
Filter Type Rules#
Low Shelf,Bell, andHigh Shelfuse theGaincontrol.Low CutandHigh Cutuse theSlopecontrol.Notchuses frequency and Q, but not gain.- Bands are processed in numeric order from
1to8.
Global Controls#
| Control | Range | Default | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
Output | -24..+24 dB | 0 dB | Applies final gain after the full EQ chain. |
Adapt Q | Off, On | Off | Increases effective Q as boost or cut amount grows. |
Scale | +/-6 dB, +/-12 dB, +/-24 dB | +/-12 dB | Changes the graph display range only. |
CV Routing And Processing#
F1..F8use exponential modulation for each band's frequency.Q1..Q8use linear bipolar modulation for each band's Q.- The DSP cascades the enabled bands, then applies
Outputgain at the end. Adapt Qchanges the effective Q used by the DSP;Scaleis a visual setting for the display.
Panel Workflow#
- The top of the panel is a frequency-response display for the full EQ curve.
- Below the graph are eight band strips, one for each band, plus a global control section.
- The bottom section holds two CV rows:
F1..F8for frequency andQ1..Q8for Q. - Audio
